The Mediterranean Diet
This diet emphasizes fruits and vegetables, olive oil, fish, and other healthy foods.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers focuses on group support to help you make healthy food choices, with a little room for indulgences.
The Mayo Clinic Diet
Found in The Mayo Clinic Diet Book, ($26) this diet aims to get rid of bad eating habits and establish healthy eating habits. It claims you’ll shed 6 to 10 pounds in two weeks and continue losing 1 to 2 pounds weekly until you’ve hit your goal weight.
And what were the worst diets of 2013? Starting at the bottom:
32. The Paleo Diet
The Paleo Diet cuts out all breads and dairy and focuses on lean meats and vegetables. This diet rated low in every category. The experts found it to be nutritionally unsafe, not beneficial to heart health or diabetes and not easy to follow.
31. The Dukan Diet
The Dukan Diet is a high protein, all-you-can-eat diet, but U.S. News’ experts labeled it as “too restrictive, with lots of rules, and there’s no evidence it works.”
30. The Raw Food Diet
The Raw Food Diet claims that food loses many important enzymes and nutrients when it is cooked or processed. It is based mainly on uncooked plant based foods. While experts found that this diet was helpful in losing weight, it was declared to be extremely difficult to follow and not completely safe or nutritional.
