Crestwood Care Center

The Difference

RECREATION

The Recreation Department’s goal is to assist the center in meeting the social, intellectual, leisurely, spiritual, emotional and physical needs of each individual resident. We as a facility strive to increase, or at least maintain, quality of life during stays at Crestwood. We know that laughter is a vital element in the healing and aging process, for without laughter, life would be mundane.

The recreation staff prides themselves on being creative, intriguing and comical when it comes to interacting, implementing and playing. Recreational games, groups, and events are supervised and conducted by a certified Therapeutic Recreation Technician and qualified Activity Staff.  The following give you an idea of our programming:

  • Music- Music is the facility favorite. We have up to 3 performers a week come to the facility, encompassing everything from country or jazz to sing-a-long or classical. We also have monthly groups such as music Reminisce, Name That Tune and Music Bingo.
  • Social- We encourage all residents to participate in the community of the building and continually promote interaction with peers, staff and families. When you have friends or even someone to just sit with, it can make life a lot brighter. Socials, Church meetings, games and movie night are all great ways to get to know those living in the community and connect.  Arts & Crafts and Cooking Groups are also offered, giving resident’s the opportunity to reminisce as well as work on fine motor skills.
  • Spiritual- We have active volunteers involved in offering Catholic, LDS and Baptist services or events weekly and/or monthly. We are always eager to have other denominations visit or set up meetings. Contact Kristi Webb for information.
  • Outings- We have 2 weekly bus rides. We take seasonal visits to places such as Antelope Island, or Brigham City to pick fruit, Morgan to see the fall colors, or Hooper to see the Christmas lights. Outings to also look forward to include Lunch Bunch, Picnics, Fishing Trips, Wendover Excursions, attending community events and more.
  • Physical- Recreation and Restorative have teamed up to do great things with our exercise program. Exercise is held 3 times a week and we have a blast shakin’ to the oldies, bouncing to beach boys or stretching to classical. We are always looking for new ways to move it! We also have smaller groups participating in wheelchair volleyball, bowling or any of the Wii games.
  • Intellectual- Current Events are held 3 times a week. We love games here at Crestwood too! Of course we play Bingo, and there is Quarter Jackpot & Pokeno which are always very well attended. Shooting Gallery, Penny Pitch and Black Jack are favorites too.
Trivia and Reminisce are encouraged through games like Penny Ante, Good Old Days and Travel Groups.
Resident Council is an opportunity for residents to voice their concerns and ideas in the programming and the care that they are receiving.
We have WiFi throughout the facility for those residents with lap tops and we have a computer available for those in need too.
  • Sensory Stimulation- Sometimes it is not an option for all of our residents to participate in some of the above groups. We offer special programming for the cognitively impaired that focus on the senses, such as: reminiscent cooking groups, raspberry lotion hand massage, passive range of motion group, Pet Therapy, Horticulture Therapy, Aroma Therapy, Domestic Group, Validation Therapy, and, of course, Music Therapy.
  • One on One Programming-It is important for residents to spend time out of their room in order to prevent depression, isolation and boredom. However there are times when staying in bed is vital. When those times occur we offer One on One visits. We can bring small activities into the room, bring then a favorite treat or just spend time reading or socializing. These One on One times are personal and individualized.
  • Families- Families are essential in our programming. It is the family member that helps us determine a resident need if they are unable to speak for themselves. We have several family members attending activities daily and volunteering too! We send out activity calendars every month to families and friends. Come and play anytime! We promote family time. Please take advantage of our TV areas, lounges & outdoor gardens & gazebo. We have Family Events every month, and big or small, they are always worth attending. Family Harvest Cookout, Luaus, Christmas Party, Trick or Treating, Easter Brunch and BBQs just to name a few!
  • Volunteers- People come from the community to donate their time and talents in a variety of ways. Those that are interested in volunteering or completing community service hours must interview, pass a background check and complete an orientation before they begin.
